What do Oprah Winfrey and I have in common on this New Year's Day 2011?

Happy New Year!!!  Welcome to my Wowiebadowie Shopping blog!
I am as excited as Oprah Winfrey must be right now.  Today she is launching her OWN network and is stepping out of a 25 year comfort zone that has brought her fame, fortune, awards and world-wide respect for all the humanitarian work and philanthropy she has created and executed through the years.  What a great role model she has been throughout the years. Growing up in Baltimore in the 1970’s, I watched her anchor the WJZTV news.  Even then she stood out.
Today, I too, am stepping out of a long time comfort zone.  I have focused myself on raising four children for the last 17 years.  Aside from taking care of them and volunteering with their schools and managing the home front , I haven’t had time for much else.  Now that the kids are older I see a time “window” slowly opening.  For a few months I have been thinking about what to do with my newly found “free time”.  In little over a year, two of my four children will be off to college.  The window slides further open  then. In considering Oprah’s continued growth over the years and her constant willingness to try new things, I have decided to attempt something new as well.  I am starting a blog about shopping, something I know a great deal about.
My mission is to discuss the latest products, promotions, steals and deals.  I may blog about Target one day and Cartier the next.  I want to keep it interesting and real.  In these economic   times, I feel it is imperative to tie a charity into my blog  and I promise to l keep my readers  informed as this idea evolves. It is all new territory for me and I am just so excited for the twists, turns, hills and dips to come.
So congratulations to Oprah on her brand new network!  Congratulations to me for following in her spirit by putting myself out there and attempting something new!  And congratulations to my new blog readers for trying something new too!!  Happy New Year and great shopping for us all!
Although I will start talking “shop” tomorrow, I must say, Target must have been reading my mind as I was contemplating getting ready to pack up my holiday décor.  They have clear ornament storage boxes, as well as clear wreath and gift wrap boxes on sale for $6.  Also a good buy are their other holiday storage bins ranging from $4.50-$7.00   As long as you are at Target, check out the wall calendars and planners. Some are on sale for as little as $8.  A friend  of mine just paid 16.99 at an office supply store for the same calendar!
A sincere welcome to my blog,
Wowie
